This workshop is based in Self Relations Therapy, a ground breaking approach developed by Dr. Gilligan that integrates aspects of Ericksonian therapy, Buddhism, and Aikido. The workshop describes in practical terms how the therapist can create and implement favourable conditions in the outcome of the therapeutic process.

Objectives:
1) To teach the priciples of a Self Relations approach to therapy.
2) To address ways of staying with the clients emotional pain during therapy.
3) Creating a therapeutic sanctuary to hold a client's difficult experience.
4) Details a general framework and specific techniques psychologists can use when presented with negative experience.

Dr. Steve Gilligan is a licensed psychologist and former student of Milton Erickson and Gregory Bateson. He is the author of numerous books including the Courage to Love—principals and practices of Self relations Therapy, The Legacy of Milton Erickson, and Therapeutic Trances: the cooperation principle in Ericksonian psychotherapy.
