Depression

Introduction to Depression

Depression is one of the most commonly diagnosed mental disorders, affecting millions of people throughout the world. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), this year alone, 19 million Americans will suffer from a depressive illness.

Psychiatrists estimate that one in four women and one in ten men can expect to develop depression during their lifetime; depression affects at least one in 50 children under 12 and one in 20 teenagers.

As with many issues of mental health, however, the diagnosis of depression is not an exact science. How we understand depression from person to person and place to place, and how individual professionals and professional groups view depression vary widely.

planet-therapy.com offers a fresh perspective and helpful solutions to understanding and treating depression.
