Questions to ask yourself and others about depression

If you are showing depression, you may also feel paralyzed by your troubles and unable to find solutions. When that happens, reaching out can bring light back into your life.

Some questions you might ask yourself to fend off depression:

  • Are there messages that you might get from TV, radio, advertising, etc. that make depression stronger?
  • Are there messages that you might get from your circle of friends that make depression stronger?
  • Are there messages that you might get from your circle of friends that make depression weaker?
  • Is depression with you all the time or do you find times when you are free of it?
  • Are there particular places or activities where depression is strongest/weakest?
  • What aspects of yourself do you find get diminished when depression is around?
  • Do you have any ways of getting these qualities of yourself back?
  • Do you notice when depression is at its weakest? What is happening then?
  • Are there particular people who seem to be the most supportive when you are less in the grip of depression?
  • What do you think your best friends see in you?
  • Are there certain activities that you do that get you away from depression?
  • When you are less involved with depression, does it remind you of ways you have been in the past?
  • What would help you remember these ways of acting and thinking?
